Histories for USS Enterprise - CVN 65

A Short History of The BIG E
On November 25th, 1961 the United States Navy commissioned the USS Enterprise, the world's first Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier. During the next 42 years the ship would be involved in almost every U.S. armed conflict. On September 11, 2001 terrorists attacked The World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. at the time USS Enterprise was heading for a port visit in Cape Town, South Africa. Upon receiving information of the September 11th attacks, the Commanding Officer of USS Enterprise turned the ship around and proceeded to the Arabian Sea and was the First U.S. Military Asset to conduct air strikes against Osama bin Ladin and his Al Queda Terrorist network. The ship is scheduled to remain in commission until the year 2013.
